Spartan Race - The BEAST!

Cody has been looking into the Spartan Races for quite a while now.  He loves talking about all the things they do on those races...crazy stuff!  This week he has been on a work trip to New Hampshire.  When he was getting on his last leg of his plane ride home he spotted a guy wearing a Spartan sweatshirt.  He approached the guy and asked if he ran those races and what he thought of them.  Of course the guy thought they were GREAT because as it turned out he was the owner of the Spartan Race Series.  Cody had let him know how interested in them he was and the guy told him to come run it...the next morning!  Cody called us around 7:30 pm to see if it was okay.  We headed for the airport to pick him up, got there at midnight, and headed to a hotel in Park City for the night (The race was near Heber City).  As you can see, the kids slept well...(it had been a long week and I think everyone had some sleep to catch up on!)

Well, everyone but Konrad.  Lucky me, he woke up bright and early!

Cody's race was a 12-mile race full of obstacles and challenges (he threw a spear, rolled through mud under barbed wire, shot a pellet gun, climbed rope, hauled rocks and sand bags, jumped through tractor tires with his legs bound together, among lots of other things!)  It took him about 2 hours 47 minutes.  He was REALLY happy he got to do this.  It's one of those things on his "bucket list".  When we were checking out the race we saw there was a Kid's Spartan Race that Corbett could do so we entered him in that.  Below, Corbett and Konrad before his race...

We had no idea when to expect Cody at the finish line.  He couldn't carry a phone (which wouldn't have mattered anyway because Kennedy thought the toilet would be the perfect place to dump Cody's phone!) so we didn't know where/how we would find each other.  Luckily though, Cody finished just as Corbett's heat took off and Cody made it over to the Kid's Race and found us just in time to cheer him on through the whole course.  I don't know if that meant more to Corbett or Cody!

Corbett was pretty excited about his medal!  He had to over, under and through several obstacles.  It was a lot of fun for him.  He didn't care for being dirty though...

Nibley Heritage Days

We have had A LOT of fun this week participating in Nibley Heritage Days.  We went to the sidewalk chalk contest, Corbett was in the play and we attended that 2 nights, we went to the Mayor's Dinner Friday night, and Saturday we did the Fun Run (Corbett ran the mile with Cody and I did the 5k, Cody pushed the twins in the jogger),and we went to the parade, the carnival and the movie in the park (Cars 2)!  I was really ready for a break by Sunday!

The inflatables were FREE this year for everyone.  It was really great to let the kids go on anything they wanted.  At first I thought the twins were not big enough for the bigger ones so I started on the smaller inflatables, but by the end they were zipping right up all of them.  Konrad was particularly insistent on going on the rides several times.

The Wizard of Oz

Corbett participated in the Nibley City Play this year!  He really enjoyed it.  He was a tornado.  The Tornadoes performed a pretty cute little song and got to act crazy, perfect for this age group of boys!  We were so proud of him.  He had to go to practice for a week and a half and then had 2 performances. Ragnar 2012

We had a lot of fun running the Wasatch Back race again this year.  We started VERY early on Friday morning.  Cody ran about 21 miles and I ran 19.5 miles between our 3 legs.  We were on Team Thorson Thunder (ROUS's - runners of unusual size).  We had a whole princess bride theme going on.  When we met up with our other van at the first exchange they had black bandanas and masks for us.  Cody and I came with a six-fingered glove.  It was a funny idea but maybe not worth the effort of making the glove??

We had a lot of funny quotes on our suburban.  My favorite was "I"ve never run for so little, except once, and that was a very noble cause!"

It was a lot of fun, except the part when you have to run!

We finished with a time of about 33 hours 12 minutes. Thanks to Samantha, my mom, my neighbor and friend Trish, and my sister Tammy for watching our kids!!!!!!

Summer Fun!

We have been enjoying some lazy summer days!  Popsicles are the name of the game this summer!

The kids all got new sun glasses...

Konrad brought me a "little" toilet paper to blow his nose one day...  Konrad is not a very naughty kid, he was really just trying to get his nose wiped.  (Oh how we love Konrad!)

We got a new trampoline for the kids summer entertainment!  They have loved it!  Here they are just enjoying the shade it provides...
